Alcohol or Chemical Dependency Treatment Benefits

Alcohol or chemical dependency treatment at an approved inpatient residential detoxification and treatment facility or a licensed Chemical Dependency Recovery Hospital (CDRH) is paid as follows:

  1. The inpatient residential facility or CDRH must be approved by the Teamsters Assistance Program (TAP) or by the Teamsters Alcohol Rehabilitation Program (TARP) if you are represented by a Joint Council 38 Local Union.
  2. An inpatient or outpatient course of treatment for rehabilitation of alcoholism or drug abuse will be paid subject to the maximum dollar limitations listed in your Summary of Coverage.
  3. An inpatient or outpatient course of treatment is an alcohol or drug rehabilitation treatment which begins on the day you enroll and ends on the earlier of the following:
    • The date you are discharged by the facility or program as having fulfilled the course of treatment, or
    • The date you end treatment without authorization from the TAP or TARP program.

Benefits will be paid for a maximum of one course of treatment per lifetime (whether inpatient or outpatient).

  • Benefits for emergency treatment related to alcohol or chemical dependency in an acute care hospital are paid the same way as treatment for any other illness.
  • Benefits for inpatient substance abuse recovery programs in an acute care hospital are limited in all cases to the maximum covered expense listed in your Summary of Coverage.
